Summary: Great Race
Comments: This is a small race so you cannot expect the atmosphere or level of organisation of a 2000 competitor Ironman. That said, it is a beautiful costal course - gently rolling - no big climbs and very friendly. The roads are not closed but fairly quiet and well marshalled. The marathon has about 4 miles of off-road trails and a bit of sandy beech which is sapping on tired legs but much more intersting than pounding a road for the whole run. Swim is a doddle, the salty sea water is very buoyant, faster than a lake but cold - buy a neoprene hat. There is a full distance and a half distance race. I raced the course in 2009 and conditions were tough, windy with bouts of heavy rain, not too warm either. Despite this really enjoyed the race and will be back for the half next year, if I decide to do the full I will have to get a divorce first!
